We note that the Sono-Tek Corporation (NASDAQ:SOTK) Executive Chairman, Christopher Coccio, recently sold US$91k worth of stock for US$5.38 per share. On the bright side, that's just a small sale and only reduced their holding by 5.5%.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Sono-Tek
In fact, the recent sale by Christopher Coccio was the biggest sale of Sono-Tek shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$5.25. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.
Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Sono-Tek shares, than buying. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!
I will like Sono-Tek better if I see some big insider buys.
Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Sono-Tek insiders own about US$14m worth of shares. That equates to 16% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Sono-Tek Insiders?
An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And our longer term analysis of insider transactions didn't bring confidence, either. But it is good to see that Sono-Tek is growing earnings. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
