INDIA STOCKS-Indian shares fall on higher crude; pharma slips on Trump tariff plan

- Indian shares edged lower at the open on Wednesday, as investors assessed sharp stock-specific moves following June-quarter earnings, while a jump in oil prices to a more than five-week high on the widening Middle East conflict weighed on sentiment.

The benchmark Nifty 50 .NSEI fell 0.41% to 24,089.20, while the BSE Sensex .BSESN shed 0.5% to 77,079.37 by 9:22 a.m. IST.

Ten of the 16 major sectors logged losses. The broader small-caps .NIFSMCP100 and mid-caps .NIFMDCP100 lost 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively.

The pharma index .NIPHARM fell 1.6% after U.S. President Donald Trump outlined a phased tariff plan for imported generic medicines, giving drugmakers a two-year window before duties take effect.

Among individual stocks, Bandhan Bank BANH.NS tumbled 10% despite reporting a stronger-than-expected profit, after the lender cut its fiscal year return-on-assets outlook on expectations of narrower net interest margins and higher operating expenses.

Bajaj Auto BAJA.NS and TVS Motor TVSM.NS gained 4% and 3.5% after quarterly profit rise.
