We wouldn't blame Linde plc (NASDAQ:LIN) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Robert Wood, the Lead Independent Director recently netted about US$2.6m selling shares at an average price of US$507. That sale reduced their total holding by 36% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Linde

In fact, the recent sale by Robert Wood was the biggest sale of Linde shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$506. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

It's great to see that Linde insiders own 0.2% of the company, worth about US$486m. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive.
