LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. Just Missed Earnings - But Analysts Have Updated Their Models
LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. LMAT | 0.00 |
One of the biggest stories of last week was how LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) shares plunged 21% in the week since its latest quarterly results, closing yesterday at US$80.82. It looks like the results were a bit of a negative overall. While revenues of US$70m were in line with analyst predictions, statutory earnings were less than expected, missing estimates by 8.3% to hit US$0.74 per share. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. Readers will be glad to know we've aggregated the latest statutory forecasts to see whether the analysts have changed their mind on LeMaitre Vascular after the latest results.
Following the latest results, LeMaitre Vascular's nine analysts are now forecasting revenues of US$277.6m in 2026. This would be a reasonable 5.8% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Statutory per-share earnings are expected to be US$2.87, roughly flat on the last 12 months. In the lead-up to this report, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$279.9m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$3.00 in 2026. The analysts seem to have become a little more negative on the business after the latest results, given the minor downgrade to their earnings per share numbers for next year.
It might be a surprise to learn that the consensus price target was broadly unchanged at US$114, with the analysts clearly implying that the forecast decline in earnings is not expected to have much of an impact on valuation. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. The most optimistic LeMaitre Vascular analyst has a price target of US$135 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$95.00. This shows there is still a bit of diversity in estimates, but analysts don't appear to be totally split on the stock as though it might be a success or failure situation.
Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. We can infer from the latest estimates that forecasts expect a continuation of LeMaitre Vascular'shistorical trends, as the 12% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2026 is roughly in line with the 12% annual growth over the past five years. Compare this with the broader industry, which analyst estimates (in aggregate) suggest will see revenues grow 7.7% annually. So it's pretty clear that LeMaitre Vascular is forecast to grow substantially faster than its industry.
The Bottom Line
The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for LeMaitre Vascular. Happily, there were no major changes to revenue forecasts, with the business still expected to grow faster than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.
Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. We have forecasts for LeMaitre Vascular going out to 2028, and you can see them free on our platform here.
