Liberty Capital (GLIB.A) Stock Faces Dividend Scrutiny As Cash Coverage Tightens
Liberty Capital stock barely budged on the earnings print, up only 0.6% to about $24.60, even though the headline was big for a capital intensive telecom player. The company put a dividend on the table and sharpened its cash story, all while reporting Q2 revenue of $261m and adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortization of $96m. In the very near term, the market seems cautious and focused on modest moves. The main question for investors is how this new dividend and potential future free cash flow path might reshape the multi year picture.
Love the new Liberty Capital dividend and cash focus but worried about tying too much capital to a single telecom stock. Take a look at the list of solid balance sheet and fundamentals stocks (49 results).

Liberty Capital bull case meets early cash milestones
Bulls argue Liberty Capital is turning heavy network spend into a cash engine supported by a durable dividend. The results partly back this up. Adjusted OIBDA of US$96 million and trailing free cash flow of US$59 million give management room to commit to a recurring US$60 million per year dividend starting Q4 2026, alongside net leverage of about 2.1x and sizeable liquidity. Consumer wireless lines grew by 2,100 and converged bundles now account for 42% of broadband customers and 63% of postpaid lines. That supports the idea of stickier relationships. Management is also staying on script with the 2026 peak CapEx plan at roughly US$290 million and is signalling lower capital intensity in 2027 and 2028. The announced Quintillion deal, with an expected US$50 million to US$55 million of adjusted OIBDA including synergies, is another concrete step toward a larger earnings base.
Bear case flags execution strain and cash coverage gaps
Bears worry that competition, peak CapEx and temporary OIBDA tailwinds leave Liberty Capital stretched just as it adds a dividend and a major acquisition. The latest numbers give that view some weight. Adjusted OIBDA fell about 11% year on year while trailing free cash flow of US$59 million currently sits below the US$60 million dividend run rate that starts in Q4 2026. Broadband pressure is visible. Organic consumer broadband subscribers declined by about 500, with reported growth driven by a 5,400 subscriber acquisition rather than purely organic demand. GCI business margins were hit by about US$9 million of higher distribution and circuit costs, which offsets some revenue stability. Management still has to close Quintillion, secure FCC approval and deliver roughly US$20 million of expected synergies over 24 months. Until those pieces land, higher spending and rising competitive intensity keep the risk side of the thesis very much alive.
