CHIP BOUNCE FIZZLES OUT IN EUROPE, ENERGY UP, AIRBUS FLIES
A bounce in U.S. chip stocks that lifted Asian peers lost steam in Europe as investors looked ahead to Alphabet earnings after the U.S. close on Wednesday, a key test of the AI rally.
ASML ASML.AS, Europe's most valuable company, fell 2%.
Easing UK inflation offered little cheer as escalating Middle East tensions pushed Brent crude towards $95, though gains in energy .SXEP helped limit losses and nudged London's commodity-heavy FTSE .FTSE into positive territory.
The pan-European STOXX 600 .STOXX was broadly unchanged, with a €5 billion share buyback lifting Airbus nearly 7%, setting shares in the heavyweight planemaker for their biggest daily gain in three months.
A number of other well-received earnings also provided support.
