NVIDIA, WALMART RESULTS STILL TO COME AS EARNINGS SEASON WINDS DOWN
The U.S. earnings season is almost finished, with results in now from more than 450 of the S&P 500 companies. But the biggest report of the season - Nvidia NVDA.O - is still to come, along with a host of retailers including Walmart WMT.N.
The results could be key for the market, which has been selling off amid concerns about AI exuberance and expensive valuations. The S&P 500 is on track for a fourth day of losses.
Nvidia, the biggest company by market cap and leader in the AI trade, is due to report after the bell on Wednesday, while Walmart is due Thursday before the bell.
Stronger-than-expected results have pushed S&P 500 estimated earnings growth for the third quarter up to 16.9%, which would be the highest since the fourth quarter of 2024, when it was 17.1%, according to LSEG data as of Friday.
Analysts had estimated growth for the third quarter of 8.8% on October 1.
Also reporting this week is Target TGT.N, due Wednesday before the bell, while Home Depot HD.N earlier Tuesday forecast a bigger drop in full-year profit after missing Wall Street estimates for quarterly earnings.
