WALL ST POISED TO MAKE LIKE A LEMMING AND FOLLOW GLOBAL SHARES LOWER

It would appear U.S. stocks are primed to follow their world counterparts lower on Friday.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng .HSI and Europe's STOXX 600 .STOXX are both off more than 1%, while Shanghai's CSI300 .CSI300 was down about 3% and Japan's Nikkei 225 .N225 tumbled more than 4%.

Chip stocks .SOX appear to be the culprit for softness in U.S. stock futures.

The S&P 500 .SPX and the Nasdaq .IXIC are on course to show losses for the week, while the Dow .DJI and the small-cap Russell 2000 .RUT are on track for Friday-to-Friday gains.

The SOX and the broader technology sector .SPLRCT appear to be headed for fairly steep weekly losses.

On the geopolitical front, Iran has reasserted its right to control shipping through the Strait of Hormuz after an attack on a ship near Oman.

But if oil prices are a reliable gauge of Middle East tensions, there's nothing to worry about. Front-month U.S. crude futures CLc1 were down about 3%.

On the data side of things, the University of Michigan is expected to release its final stab at June consumer sentiment, which will also include inflation expectations.

The Commerce Department's advance takes on goods trade balance and wholesale inventories showed the trade gap unexpectedly widened in May while the value of goods stacked in the warehouses of U.S. wholesalers increased by 0.3%.
