Mechanics Bank has reached a definitive agreement to sell its Fannie Mae Delegated Underwriting and Servicing (DUS) business line to Fifth Third Bancorp in an all-cash transaction. The DUS business, which specializes in multifamily lending and servicing under the Fannie Mae DUS program, includes a servicing portfolio of approximately $1.8 billion and associated escrow amounts. As part of the agreement, Fifth Third will also hire the Mechanics Bank employees who operate the DUS business. The completion of the transaction is contingent upon Fannie Mae's approval of Fifth Third as an authorized DUS lender and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.
