More German firms willing to sacrifice features for national cloud, Bitkom says
BERLIN, June 17 (Reuters) - An increasing number of German businesses would opt for a national cloud solution, even if it meant compromising on services, to avoid becoming overly dependent on providers from abroad, particularly from the U.S., a survey found on Wednesday.
85% of the 603 companies surveyed by digital association Bitkom consider Germany too dependent on U.S. cloud providers, up from 78% a year ago
Nearly 40% would now be willing to use a cloud service that processes data exclusively within Germany, even if this entailed disadvantages, from 27% a year ago
Almost two-thirds using cloud computing feel compelled by U.S. government policies to rethink their cloud strategies, compared with 50% a year ago
"Germany needs to break free from one-sided dependencies in the cloud sector, particularly in light of the growing importance of AI and data," said Bitkom President Ralf Wintergerst
