MOVES-Once considered the world's top sugar trader, Bohbot leaves Wilmar
By Marcelo Teixeira
NEW YORK, May 29 (Reuters) - Jean-Luc Bohbot, once considered the world's top sugar trader, is leaving his post as global head for sugar and ethanol at Asian commodities trader and food processor Wilmar International WLIL.SI, two sources told Reuters on Friday.
Bohbot's last day at Wilmar was on Thursday, when he gathered his trading team at the Geneva office to announce his departure, in a conversation that was shared through a video call to other offices, including Dubai and headquarters in Singapore, a source in the company said, asking not to be named as he lacked authorization to speak about the matter.
Wilmar did not respond to a request for comment.
Bohbot joined Wilmar in 2011, having previously worked for French soft commodities trader Sucden. He was hired by the Kuok family, which controls the company, to set up the sugar division from scratch.
The executive formed his trading team and, over the next 15 years, managed the acquisition of several sugar assets around the world, while overseeing construction of some greenfield refineries.
Wilmar has sugar processing operations in Australia, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Indonesia and India, with trading offices in several other countries.
The Wilmar source and a second source in the trade sector with direct knowledge of the situation said the end of the partnership between Bohbot and Wilmar was amicable and organized over recent months. They said Bohbot had other projects to pursue next.
