Nexa Resources stock closed up 1.8% at US$14.30, a modest move for what was a heavy hitting quarter. Behind that small uptick sits a mining business that just printed US$908m in revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization above US$1b on a trailing twelve month basis. Net income reached US$68.6m for the quarter. The real story for you is not today’s share price flicker. It is how these stronger margins and lower net leverage could reshape the risk reward profile over the next few years.

Is Nexa Resources a genuine value opportunity at a 6.8x P/E, or is the stock pricing in more risk than the trailing earnings justify? See how that low multiple lines up with cash flow and forecast pressures in the full valuation analysis for Nexa Resources

Nexa bull story faces real execution check

Bulls argue Nexa is in a genuine operating recovery, with integrated mining and smelting now turning higher metals prices into durable cash flow and lower net leverage. Q2 backs part of that claim. Net revenues reached US$907.9m, adjusted EBITDA margin was 31.5% versus 17.7% a year earlier, and LTM adjusted EBITDA sits above US$1b. Net leverage is down to 1.4x and management targets roughly 1x by year end while keeping an investment grade profile. Mines are hitting key milestones such as Aripuana’s fourth tailings filter and Cerro Lindo’s move to block caving. Byproduct credits pushed mining cash costs for H1 well below 2026 guidance. The bear point that recent strength might be a one off is less supported when you see guidance unchanged, exploration spend lifted and Cerro Pasco Phase 1 spend tracking to plan.

Bear concerns on cyclicality and overhangs not gone

The cautious view is that Nexa is still a cyclical zinc stock that has re rated quickly, with execution and country risks that can unwind recent gains. Q2 gives bears some support. Smelting cash costs of US$1.44/lb in Q2 sat above the upper end of guidance, helped by higher zinc input prices, temporary Cajamarquilla fire effects and Brazilian real strength. Q2 free cash flow was slightly negative after a US$131m tax payment in Peru, and management still flags weather and infrastructure as risks to H2. Zinc, silver and copper prices were important tailwinds and are outside Nexa’s control. The mixed external valuation work and a consensus 12 month target that sits close to the current share price also show that, despite better operations and lower leverage, the wider market is not yet convinced that this earnings level and balance sheet strength will persist through a full commodity cycle.

After volatile recent trading, tight interest cover and a forecast earnings decline, it is worth asking if this quarter masks deeper structural issues. Review our independent risk analysis for Nexa Resources which shows 3 important warning signs
