NiSource Inc., through its IURC-approved GenCo structure, has announced a partnership with Amazon to support the development of data center campuses in Northern Indiana. Under this agreement, GenCo will provide up to 3 gigawatts of new generation capacity to serve Amazon's data center needs. The structure is designed to ensure that the costs of new infrastructure for data centers are funded by the data center companies themselves, rather than existing NIPSCO customers. The project represents a nearly $7 billion investment in energy infrastructure and is expected to generate approximately $1 billion in cost savings for current NIPSCO customers, to be returned as credits on monthly electric bills over a 15-year period.
