U.S. TROOPS
Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday told reporters a U.S. troop deployment to Poland had been delayed, but added it was not accurate to say the troops were being withdrawn from Europe.
The United States remains committed to its military presence in Poland, the Polish defence minister said on Tuesday after a call with his U.S. counterpart Pete Hegseth, as he sought to downplay news about the cancellation of a deployment of troops.
HUNGARY'S PM VISIT POLAND
Hungary's Prime Minister Peter Magyar began a two-day visit to Poland on Tuesday, his first trip abroad since taking office and one rich in symbolism for a leader who is seeking to steer his nation back towards the European mainstream.
FORMER MINISTER OF JUSTICE
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau instructed senior State Department officials to facilitate and approve a visa for a fugitive former Polish cabinet minister, allowing him to flee to the United States from Hungary, three people familiar with the matter said.
INTEREST RATES
Polish central banker Joanna Tyrowicz said that pricing processes in Poland were not stabilized and interest rates were not at an appropriate level, Rzeczpospolita daily reported, with inflation rising and growth robust.
BANKING SECTOR PROFITS
In the first quarter of 2026, the profit of Polish banks amounted to approximately 9.5 billion zlotys ($2.59 billion), almost 20% lower than a year earlier, due to the corporate income tax increase, Rzeczpospolita daily reported, citing data from the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF).
