Results: Kadant Inc. Beat Earnings Expectations And Analysts Now Have New Forecasts
Kadant Inc. KAI | 0.00 |
A week ago, Kadant Inc. (NYSE:KAI) came out with a strong set of second-quarter numbers that could potentially lead to a re-rate of the stock. It was overall a positive result, with revenues beating expectations by 4.5% to hit US$313m. Kadant reported statutory earnings per share (EPS) US$2.75, which was a notable 15% above what the analysts had forecast. This is an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance in its report, look at what experts are forecasting for next year, and see if there has been any change to expectations for the business. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year.
Following the latest results, Kadant's four analysts are now forecasting revenues of US$1.20b in 2026. This would be a reasonable 4.1% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to increase 8.3% to US$10.06. In the lead-up to this report, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$1.19b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$10.07 in 2026. So it's pretty clear that, although the analysts have updated their estimates, there's been no major change in expectations for the business following the latest results.
With the analysts reconfirming their revenue and earnings forecasts, it's surprising to see that the price target rose 5.4% to US$362. It looks as though they previously had some doubts over whether the business would live up to their expectations. There's another way to think about price targets though, and that's to look at the range of price targets put forward by analysts, because a wide range of estimates could suggest a diverse view on possible outcomes for the business. The most optimistic Kadant analyst has a price target of US$380 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$335. With such a narrow range of valuations, the analysts apparently share similar views on what they think the business is worth.
These estimates are interesting, but it can be useful to paint some more broad strokes when seeing how forecasts compare, both to the Kadant's past performance and to peers in the same industry. We can infer from the latest estimates that forecasts expect a continuation of Kadant'shistorical trends, as the 8.4% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2026 is roughly in line with the 7.7% annual growth over the past five years. Compare this with the broader industry, which analyst estimates (in aggregate) suggest will see revenues grow 6.9% annually. It's clear that while Kadant's revenue growth is expected to continue on its current trajectory, it's only expected to grow in line with the industry itself.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that there's been no major change in sentiment, with the analysts reconfirming that the business is performing in line with their previous earnings per share estimates. They also reconfirmed their revenue estimates, with the company predicted to grow at about the same rate as the wider industry. There was also a nice increase in the price target, with the analysts clearly feeling that the intrinsic value of the business is improving.
Keeping that in mind, we still think that the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for investors to consider. We have forecasts for Kadant going out to 2027, and you can see them free on our platform here.
