Some Analysts Just Cut Their IDEAYA Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDYA) Estimates
IDEAYA Biosciences IDYA | 0.00 |
Market forces rained on the parade of IDEAYA Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDYA) shareholders today, when the analysts downgraded their forecasts for this year. There was a fairly draconian cut to their revenue estimates, perhaps an implicit admission that previous forecasts were much too optimistic.
Following the downgrade, the consensus from 16 analysts covering IDEAYA Biosciences is for revenues of US$27m in 2026, implying a disturbing 88% decline in sales compared to the last 12 months. Per-share losses are expected to explode, reaching US$4.29 per share. However, before this estimates update, the consensus had been expecting revenues of US$37m and US$4.03 per share in losses. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analysts making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.
The consensus price target was broadly unchanged at US$52.69, perhaps implicitly signalling that the weaker earnings outlook is not expected to have a long-term impact on the valuation.
Looking at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can make sense of these forecasts is to see how they measure up against both past performance and industry growth estimates. These estimates imply that sales are expected to slow, with a forecast annualised revenue decline of 94% by the end of 2026. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 41% over the last five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the same industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 21% annually for the foreseeable future. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - IDEAYA Biosciences is expected to lag the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that analysts increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Unfortunately analysts also downgraded their revenue estimates, and industry data suggests that IDEAYA Biosciences' revenues are expected to grow slower than the wider market. Often, one downgrade can set off a daisy-chain of cuts, especially if an industry is in decline. So we wouldn't be surprised if the market became a lot more cautious on IDEAYA Biosciences after today.
