Steel Dynamics expects $16 million hit from asset write-downs; shares fall

June 17 (Reuters) - Steel Dynamics STLD.O expects to take a $16 million hit from asset write-downs tied to the planned relocation of an aluminum recycling facility, it said on Wednesday.
Shares of the company fell 3% in extended trading.
The company forecasts second-quarter profit of between $3.51 and $3.55 per share.
U.S. steel imports stayed near multi-year lows amid tariffs and other trade measures, while onshoring in manufacturing and a shift toward regional supply chains continued to underpin demand.
The company said second-quarter earnings from its steel fabrication operations are expected to be slightly below sequentially, as stronger shipments and steady pricing are offset by higher raw material costs.
The steel fabrication business involves converting steel into finished products for construction and industrial use, providing higher-value, downstream revenue but with exposure to raw material costs and demand cycles.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana-based company's first-quarter profit per share was $2.78, compared with $1.44 a year earlier.
The company plans to release its second quarter results on July 20.
