Taipei condemns China banning New Zealand lawmakers after Taiwan trip
TAIPEI, June 4 (Reuters) - Taiwan's foreign ministry on Thursday said it "strongly condemned" China banning four New Zealand lawmakers from entry following their visit to Taiwan last month, urging Beijing to stop pressuring legislators that engage with it.
"China has no right to interfere," Taiwan's foreign ministry said in a statement, adding that "parliamentary diplomacy is a normal practice among democratic nations to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen cooperation."
China views Taiwan as its own territory and has not ruled out the use of force to take control of the island. Taiwan's government rejects Beijing's sovereignty claims.
