The S&P 500 index(SPX.US) was relatively unchanged on Wednesday after the latest personal consumption expenditures price index reading revealed that inflation remains elevated.
The broad market index traded around the flatline, as did the NASDAQ(IXIC.US) . The Dow Jones Industrial Average(DJI.US) was also flat.
Meta Platforms(META.US) reached a settlement with state attorneys general over a lawsuit alleging that its social media apps harmed young users. Shares were last 1% higher.
July's personal consumption expenditures price index — a monthly report detailing changes in prices of goods and services and the Federal Reserve's preferred metric of inflation — showed a month-over-month and year-over-year increase of 0.2% and 3.7%, respectively. Both figures were 0.1% above what economists polled by Dow Jones had expected.
However, core PCE, which excludes food and energy prices, came in as expected with a gain of 0.2% on the month and 3.3% annually.
The report comes with the bond market in focus. U.S. Treasury yields inched higher Wednesday after falling broadly Tuesday, when the 10-year yield lost almost 8 basis points. Yields hit multi-year highs last week, with the 30-year bond rate reaching levels not seen in nearly 20 years.

Shares of Expion360 Inc (Expion360, Inc.(XPON.US) ) got a boost, surging 85% after dropping 15% on Tuesday. Expion360 recently announced a $3.425 million acquisition of Eastern Louisiana Oil ans Gas Exploration Prospect.
