Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has initiated construction on the Patache project, a substantial 300 MW/1,500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Chile. This project marks CIP's ongoing investment in critical energy infrastructure in Latin America, designed to shift excess solar power into periods of higher demand, thus enhancing the resilience and efficiency of the power system. Strategically positioned near existing infrastructure and industrial clusters, Patache aims to reduce reliance on thermal generation and facilitate the integration of solar energy, aligning with Chile’s decarbonization objectives. The project, which follows CIP’s successful Arena BESS project, also involves an internationally recognized carbon offset programme, highlighting its contribution to sustainable energy goals.
