SAO PAULO, May 29 (Reuters) - China has suspended beef imports from a plant belonging to JBS JBS.N, the world's largest meatpacker, in the northern Brazilian city of Vilhena, Brazilian news outlet Globo Rural reported on Friday.
The suspension comes after the detection of progesterone, a growth-promoting hormone, in shipments sent by the Brazilian company's plant to China, Globo Rural said, citing a source.
China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) informed Brazilian authorities about the move on Tuesday, Globo Rural added.
JBS and Brazil's Agriculture Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This makes the Vilhena plant the fifth Brazilian beef plant, and JBS' second, currently suspended from exporting to China, according to Globo Rural.
