- China has suspended beef imports from a plant belonging to JBS JBS.N, the world's largest meatpacker, in the northern Brazilian city of Vilhena, Brazilian news outlet Globo Rural reported on Friday.

  • The suspension comes after the detection of progesterone, a growth-promoting hormone, in shipments sent by the Brazilian company's plant to China, Globo Rural said, citing a source.

  • China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) informed Brazilian authorities about the move on Tuesday, Globo Rural added.

  • JBS and Brazil's Agriculture Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

  • This makes the Vilhena plant the fifth Brazilian beef plant, and JBS' second, currently suspended from exporting to China, according to Globo Rural.
