- Derivatives exchange CME Group CME.O reported a rise in its second-quarter profit on Wednesday, as it benefited from heightened equity market volatility, encouraging more investors to hedge their positions.

Developments around the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, and the wider Middle East conflict kept markets volatile, which in turn helped the exchange.

Investors showed interest in equity index products as the broader market remained on a slow path up during the quarter. The benchmark S&P 500 index .SPX rose 14.9% in the second quarter.

Equity index average daily volume (ADV) rose 13% in the second quarter to 8.6 million contracts, offsetting a 1% fall in total ADV from year-ago period, which saw the market fallout from U.S. President Donald Trump's Liberation Day tariffs.

Second-quarter 2025 was a record for the derivatives exchange in average daily volumes.

Adjusted profit attributable to the common shareholders of the company came in at $1.08 ‌billion, or $2.99 per share, for the three months ended June 30, compared with $1.07 billion, or $2.96 per share, in the year-ago period.
