NEW YORK, May 27 (Reuters) - PBF Energy's PBF.N 160,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery in Torrance, California experienced an unplanned flaring event, according to a community alert on Monday.
Torrance Fire Department responded to an incident at the refinery after the facility experienced an unplanned flaring event, according to the alert. "No offsite impact has been reported at this time," the alert said.
The flaring was due to a leak at one of the hydrotreater units, a person familiar with the matter said, adding production is likely impacted.
Fuel prices have soared across the U.S. since the start of the Iran war in late February, which has closed the Strait of Hormuz and blocked nearly a fifth of global oil flows. Motorists in California now pay more than $6 a gallon for gasoline, the highest in the country.
The refinery produces key transportation fuels including gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel.
PBF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
