UPDATE 1-Rogers Communications beats quarterly revenue estimates

Adds details

- Rogers Communications RCIb.TO on Wednesday posted second-quarter revenue above analysts' estimates, as the Canadian telecom company benefited from growth in its media and sports businesses.

The wireless service provider reported second-quarter revenue of C$5.62 billion, compared with analysts' average estimate of C$5.55 billion ($3.94 billion), according to data compiled by LSEG.

Rogers' media business has become an increasingly important contributor as Canada's telecom sector grapples with intense competition.

Earlier this month, Rogers agreed to acquire the remaining 25% stake in MLSE for C$4.35 billion in cash, a deal that would give it full ownership of the sports and entertainment company. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
