- Vietnam does not have a policy of creating excess capacity, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung told Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Rick Switzer at a meeting on Wednesday in Hanoi, the Vietnamese government said.

Vietnam will continue to closely coordinate with the U.S. to finalise negotiations for a bilateral trade pact, the government said in a statement following the meeting.

  • Vietnam has been in talks with the U.S., its largest export market, on a trade agreement since President Donald Trump announced planned tariffs on Vietnamese goods more than a year ago.

  • Hung said at the meeting that Vietnam is willing to facilitate U.S. firms in expanding their investment and business activities in the country.

  • He said Vietnam is determined to fight against violations of intellectual property rights.

  • Vietnam earlier this month launched a new crackdown on online piracy and counterfeit goods, aiming to boost detections by a fifth, after the U.S. revived the prospect of fresh tariffs.
