Some Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Executive VP & Chief Human Resources Officer, Samantha Hammock, recently sold a substantial US$3.5m worth of stock at a price of US$47.83 per share. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 82% of their entire holding.
Verizon Communications Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Hans Vestberg, for US$11m worth of shares, at about US$49.61 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$46.65. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Verizon Communications insiders own 0.03% of the company, worth about US$70m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
