In stock technical analysis, moving averages are among the most commonly used indicators. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to which averages work best. For medium-term trends, the 10-week moving average (which is close to the 50-day moving average) is widely used.
Each week, we select stocks whose weekly candlesticks are trading near the 10-week moving average and whose closing prices are in the upper half of their weekly trading range. Specific stock screening criteria:
- The weekly low is below the 10-week moving average, the weekly high is above the 10-week moving average, and the closing price is above the average of the high and low (i.e., closing in the upper half of the weekly range, indicating relative strength).
- Over the past 20 weeks, the stock's pullback from its highest price is less than 20%.
- Over the past 50 weeks, the stock's gain is greater than 0% but less than 100% (ensuring an upward trend without having run up too dramatically).
