ZAWYA: A partnership between NYU Abu Dhabi and Pharmac to support national innovation and develop scientific talent in the UAE
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - New York University Abu Dhabi has announced a new partnership with the Gulf Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing Association (Pharmage), as the main sponsor of the University Student Research Competition, which is organized annually by the university with the support of the American Chamber of Commerce in Abu Dhabi.
The Undergraduate Research Competition is an annual event organized by NYU Abu Dhabi, where graduate students compete to explain their complex research in a clear, engaging, and accessible way for the general public in just three minutes. Participants are evaluated based on their success in capturing the audience's attention and clearly conveying their main idea within the allotted time. The competition has helped to highlight groundbreaking innovations in the fields of biomedical science, biotechnology, engineering, and artificial intelligence solutions, solidifying its position as a launchpad for a new generation of life science leaders in the region.
As the main sponsor and a member of the judging panel, Pharmag seeks to promote cooperation between academic institutions, government and industry entities at the UAE and Gulf level, contributing to the development of the life sciences and scientific research sector, improving health services and supporting sustainable development .
Professor Sunil Kumar, Vice Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Programs at NYU Abu Dhabi, affirmed that the partnership embodies the university's commitment to supporting ideas that have a tangible impact on society. He explained that the competition provides graduate students with a platform to present their research in a way that connects science to people's lives, noting that the collaboration with Pharmag contributes to preparing a new generation of innovators capable of leading the future of life sciences in the UAE and the region .
For his part, Sameh Al-Fangary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturing Association (Pharmage), explained that the UAE has established itself as a hub for innovation and scientific discovery. He noted that initiatives such as the University Student Research Competition reflect the promising potential of young researchers, who are capable of shaping the future of scientific research. He further explained that the partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi is part of Pharmage's efforts to support scientific talent and enhance collaboration across various sectors, contributing to the development of healthcare and other fields .
The partnership between NYU Abu Dhabi and PharmaG comes in the year the association celebrates its 20th anniversary, underscoring the importance of collaboration between the academic and scientific sectors in supporting the advancement of life sciences.
