July 18 (Reuters Sports Service) - Egyptian handball league club Al Ahly Bank announced on Saturday that it had signed Ahmed Al-Ahmar on a free transfer after he left Zamalek following nearly 22 years with the team, during which he made a great history.

Al-Ahmar (42 years old) left Zamalek last April, after contributing to raising the club’s status locally and continentally, as he won eight titles in the Egyptian League, five titles in the African Champions League, six titles in the African Cup Winners’ Cup and the same number in the African Super Cup, and he also led the team to obtain third place in the Club World Cup.

Al-Ahmar, a five-time African champion with Egypt and the fifth-highest scorer in the history of the World Championship, will reunite with his former teammate Hussein Zaki, who now coaches Al-Ahly Bank. The pair formed a formidable duo with the Egyptian national team at the beginning of the millennium and contributed to Egypt's tenth-place finish at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The right-back, who is famous for his skill in a game that relies on physical strength, had trials with the Qatari Army, the Saudi Gulf, the Bahraini Star, and the German Flensburg, and led Egypt to the semi-finals in the Tokyo Olympics.
