May 28 (Reuters) - Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic said on Thursday it had raised $65 billion, raising its valuation to $965 billion, with the aim of expanding computing power to meet growing demand for its cloud chatbot software and broadening its product portfolio.
This new valuation, which comes after a Series H funding round, would put Anthropic ahead of its rival OpenAI, which was last valued at $852 billion after funding in March.
Anthropic said, "Since our Series G funding round launched in February, adoption of our products has continued to grow across global enterprise customers, and our revenues surpassed $47 billion earlier this month."
Anthropic was valued at $380 billion in February, after raising $30 billion.
The recent funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Green Oaks, and Sequoia Capital. It included $15 billion in previously committed investments from major technology companies, including $5 billion from Amazon.
Amazon said in April that it plans to invest up to $25 billion in Anthropic as part of the AI startup's commitment to spend more than $100 billion over the next 10 years on Amazon's cloud computing services, on top of the $8 billion Amazon has already invested in the company.
