June 22 (Reuters) - Google's DeepMind unit and independent film studio A24 said on Monday they have partnered to explore ways artificial intelligence can support filmmakers and creative professionals.
The two sides said the initiative will focus on helping artists develop new creative methods and techniques, and ensuring that creators simultaneously shape the future tools they use.
Over the past few years, A24 has produced the horror film Back Rooms, the Timothée Chalamet-starring Marty Supreme, the Oscar-winning adventure film Everything Everywhere All at Once, and other films.
Under the agreement, DeepMind and A24 will collaborate on several research and development projects in the future.
The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported today that Alphabet's Google also invested $75 million in the independent film studio. DeepMind declined to comment on the investment amount.
A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that the studio will play an active role in developing the new workflow, while filmmakers will retain full creative control, adding that the agreement is not an intellectual property deal or data training.
The source added that the partnership will give A24 access to DeepMind's research, infrastructure and global reach.
