Zawya - Press Releases: EEIC and Emerald Eco Technologies showcase 91% cost-saving sterilization technologies in a UAE desalination project
Dubai, UAE – Emirates Precision Electrical and Instrumentation ( EEIC ), a subsidiary of the Ghobash Group, in collaboration with UAE-based Emerald Eco Technologies, successfully concluded its participation in the Middle East and North Africa Desalination Exhibition (June 3-4), where it showcased its Aquachlor® technology for producing an effective mixed oxidizing solution. This joint presentation highlighted the technology's ability to provide safer, more efficient, and more sustainable water treatment for desalination, drinking water, and wastewater treatment applications across the region.
During their participation, the two companies demonstrated how this technology helps regional operators reduce operating costs and decrease reliance on hazardous chlorine-based chemicals.
This successful presentation has provided EEIC and Emerald Ecotechnologies with the opportunity to connect directly with stakeholders in the targeted business sectors seeking to improve their existing facility infrastructure.
These efforts are in line with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, which prioritizes the sustainability of water resources, the resilience of infrastructure, and improved operational efficiency as the country continues to expand its investments in large-scale desalination projects.
One of the model projects showcased during the event was the seawater reverse osmosis ( SWRO ) desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain, owned by Naqa, with a production capacity of approximately 684,000 cubic meters per day for drinking water. The AQUACHLOR® system was selected as a replacement for chlorine dioxide at the plant and is scheduled to be commissioned later this year. Once implemented, the project is expected to achieve a 91% reduction in operating expenses while maintaining stable residual disinfection performance and drinking water quality that meets World Health Organization standards, without harmful disinfection byproducts such as bromates, chlorates, and chlorites.
Speaking at the Middle East and North Africa Desalination Exhibition, Peter Gnatiuk, CEO of Emerald Ecotechnologies, highlighted the growing demand for safer and less expensive alternatives to traditional chlorine- or chlorine dioxide-based disinfection systems, as utilities across the region continue to upgrade water infrastructure and expand desalination capacity.
Ramez Parbalkar, Head of Water Technology Business Unit at EEIC , stated: “The UAE continues to lead the region in investing in advanced water and desalination infrastructure projects, with an increasing focus on operational efficiency, sustainability, and long-term water security. As an engineering, procurement, and construction company supporting complex utility and infrastructure projects across the region, EEIC works closely with operators to help integrate practical and scalable technologies into critical water infrastructure. Through our partnership with Emerald Eco Technologies, we showcased solutions at this event that contribute to reducing reliance on chemicals, lowering operating costs, and enhancing operational safety.”
Peter Gnatiuk, CEO of Emerald Eco Technologies, added: “Today’s infrastructure companies are looking for technologies that can deliver stronger sterilization performance while simplifying operations and reducing lifecycle costs. During the exhibition, we observed growing regional interest in efficient and inexpensive solutions that reduce the demand for transporting and storing hazardous chemicals.”
The solutions reviewed during the engagement also support the sector’s broader efforts to reduce disinfection byproducts, improve biofilm control within water distribution networks, and enhance operational safety by minimizing the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals.
This event provided a strategic platform for both companies to showcase how advanced mixed oxidizer technology can immediately enhance the operational safety and commercial efficiency of water networks in the GCC. Following the exhibition's success, EEIC and Emerald Eco Technologies are ideally positioned to accelerate the deployment of these sustainable solutions, contributing to the development of a new generation of resilient utility infrastructure across the region.
