Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates : As part of its support for advanced scientific research in the field of planetary and space sciences, the UAE Space Agency and New York University Abu Dhabi signed a sponsorship agreement to support research work related to the research project “Studies of the Martian Atmosphere and Surface using data from the Emirates Mars Mission,” in an important step towards expanding the use of the mission’s scientific data in developing studies related to the planet Mars.

The signing of the agreement was attended by His Excellency Engineer Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, Fabio Piano, Acting Vice President of New York University, and Marna Losada, Senior Vice President for Research at the University, along with a number of officials and employees from both sides.

His Excellency Engineer Salem Al Qubaisi affirmed that this agreement reflects the UAE's commitment to investing in scientific and research talent, and empowering future generations of researchers to contribute to advancing scientific discoveries with global impact. He added, "Our collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi represents a significant step towards utilizing the scientific data from the Emirates Mars Mission to support advanced research and enhance our understanding of Mars and its atmosphere. As the mission continues into its phase extending to 2028, we will continue to leverage its scientific outputs to support advanced research, strengthen international scientific cooperation, and solidify the UAE's vision of building a sustainable space sector based on research, innovation, and the development of national capabilities."

Fabio Piano, Acting Vice President of New York University, added: “This agreement with the UAE Space Agency reflects our shared commitment to supporting the journey of scientific discovery through research, innovation, and collaboration. This partnership will support the efforts of the Center for Astrophysics and Space Science at NYU Abu Dhabi, and in harnessing the exceptional scientific data generated by the Emirates Mars Mission, and will contribute to the vision of the United Arab Emirates in the fields of space exploration, scientific research, and innovation.”

The agreement aims to support research work within the project “Studies of the Martian Atmosphere and Surface using data from the Emirates Mars Mission,” which contributes to utilizing the mission’s data and employing it in developing research related to the planet Mars.

The agreement is in line with the objectives of the UAE Space Agency and the National Space Strategy 2031, which aim to develop the science, technology and innovation system, enhance the UAE’s position in the space sector at the regional and global levels, and consolidate its presence as a major contributor to supporting advanced scientific research in this field.
