Zawya - Press Releases: Emirates Global Aluminium establishes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) laboratories in several schools and universities in the UAE.
United Arab Emirates : Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the UAE outside the oil and gas sector, has established specialized science, technology, engineering and mathematics laboratories in a number of schools and universities in the country, with the aim of developing students’ skills in these fields and enhancing their scientific capabilities.
Emirates Global Aluminium is one of the largest employers of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professionals in the country, with more than 1,500 employees in these disciplines, including more than 500 Emirati nationals.
The new laboratories provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience through the use of technologies and equipment that simulate real work environments in the fields of engineering, manufacturing and product development, which contributes to developing their technical and innovative skills, and enhancing their interest in academic and professional paths related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In addition to developing and equipping these laboratories, Emirates Global Aluminium oversees the training of teachers on the optimal use of new equipment and technologies and how to benefit from them effectively.
Emirates Global Aluminium collaborated with Al Samha, Al Rahba, Al Falahiya, Dubai National, Zayed University and Higher Colleges of Technology to establish science laboratories. This initiative is expected to contribute to the development of the capabilities of more than 2,600 students annually.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “Emirates Global Aluminium has relied on science, technology, engineering and mathematics since its inception, as these fields represent a fundamental pillar for the future of industry and innovation in the UAE. By empowering the next generation with the necessary scientific expertise and skills, we contribute to enhancing the readiness of national talent for the future, linking education with practical application, and encouraging students to explore promising opportunities in these fields, which supports the industrial growth and economic competitiveness of the country.”
Emirates Global Aluminium is conducting an assessment to explore the possibility of expanding the program by establishing additional laboratories in schools and universities across the UAE.
The new initiative complements the educational and training programs that the company provides to students, including the "Engineering the Future" program, which includes workshops dedicated to school students that allow them to learn about topics such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, sustainability, materials science, and the circular economy.
The company organizes the annual "Aluminum Design and Innovation Challenge," which allows students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 to apply their STEM skills to develop solutions for real-world challenges using aluminum. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, more than 300 teams from various schools across the country participated in the challenge in 2025.
Since its launch in 2017, the "Engineering the Future" program has involved more than 36,000 male and female students from 128 schools across the country.
