Zawya - Press Releases: The Kingdom participates in the 2026 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
The Kingdom is participating in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2026, which is being held from July 7 to 15, 2026 in New York City. The forum brings together member states to review international efforts and progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals .
During the forum, the Kingdom will present its 2026 Voluntary National Review (VNR) report, which reviews the progress made in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national level. The Kingdom previously presented its VNR reports at the forum in 2018 and 2023. This year's report represents the Kingdom's third national review and provides a comprehensive overview of the progress achieved in realizing the SDGs, along with key challenges and future priorities. The report reflects a broad participatory approach, with contributions from more than 140 entities across the government, private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and international partners. The Kingdom's participation underscores its commitment to aligning the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 with the global framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Kingdom’s delegation participating in the forum is headed by His Excellency the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mr. Faisal bin Fadel Al-Ibrahim. The delegation includes representatives from 14 government, private sector, and non-profit entities, including: the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, the Madinah Region Development Authority, the General Authority for Endowments, the Saudi Fund for Development, Expo 2030 Riyadh, the Saudi Green Building Forum, the Saudi Sports for All Federation, Majmaah University, and the Saudi Ceval Center .
This year’s forum is being held under the theme ‘Transformative, Equitable, Innovative and Coordinated Actions to Implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Goals for a Sustainable Future for All’, with a review of progress made on five of the Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) .
The Kingdom's delegation will participate in the forum by delivering official statements on behalf of the Kingdom, reviewing progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the forum's agenda, and participating in ministerial sessions and general debates. The Kingdom will also host several side events, most notably its official event, "Rethinking SDG Implementation: Prioritizing and Implementing the Goals," and an accompanying exhibition, "Promoting Sustainability in Saudi Arabia," showcasing key national initiatives and achievements that contribute to enhancing sustainability and achieving the SDGs in the Kingdom.
It should be noted that the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is held annually under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
