Zawya - Press Releases: Abdulrahman Al Awar to head the UAE delegation to the World Digital Education Conference in China

The delegation learned about the Chinese experience in employing artificial intelligence technologies to develop the higher education system.

United Arab Emirates: The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization participated, as part of an official delegation headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the proceedings of the World Digital Education Conference 2026, which was recently held in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Education: Transformation, Development and Governance”.

The delegation members were briefed on the Chinese experience in employing artificial intelligence technologies to develop the higher education system, improve its outputs, and supply the economic and industrial sectors with the best talents and competencies. The delegation included representatives from both ministries, along with nine representatives from five higher education institutions in the country, including (United Arab Emirates University, Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, Khalifa University, and Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University).

The delegation attended a number of key sessions and events within the conference, which addressed the latest global trends in the fields of digital education, artificial intelligence, and the development of higher education and scientific research systems, in addition to reviewing best practices and international experiences in employing smart technologies to enhance the quality of education and raise the efficiency of its outputs.

On the sidelines of the conference, His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar and the accompanying delegation held two meetings with leaders from Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University to discuss ways to enhance institutional cooperation between Emirati universities and their Chinese counterparts, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of higher education and scientific research, exploring prospects for developing academic and research partnerships and scientific exchange programs, as well as cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, medicine and engineering, energy, and advanced technologies, in support of the strategic priorities of the two friendly countries, and to enhance opportunities for exchanging experiences and knowledge, to support innovation and develop the future education system.

This step comes as part of the United Arab Emirates’ efforts to enhance its international presence in the higher education and scientific research sector, and to expand its global academic partnerships, in line with its national directions in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, and to support the building of an advanced educational and research system that responds to the requirements of the future.
