Zawya - Press Releases: Sawiris Foundation hosts students from Harvard Business School's FIELD Global Capstone Program in Cairo

Cairo: The Sawiris Foundation hosted a team of six Harvard Business School students for a week in Cairo as part of a mandatory course known as " FIELD Global Capstone, " one of 156 global partners of the project spread across 14 cities in 14 countries. These partners collectively have hosted more than 900 Harvard Business School students worldwide.

The FIELD Global Capstone program aims to enhance and develop students' ability to manage and work effectively in diverse business contexts. Sawiris Foundation leaders worked remotely with the team in the months leading up to their arrival in Cairo, focusing on the Foundation's project to build the capacity of civil society organizations in Egypt. During their time there, the students presented their ideas to the Foundation team, conducted field research with project beneficiaries, and presented their final recommendations to management. Professor Laila Hosny, Executive Director of the Sawiris Foundation, and Professor Mays Abou Hegab, Deputy Executive Director, attended the final presentation, where they directly discussed the students' recommendations and the project's outcomes.

This interactive program also aims to give students the opportunity to "learn by doing" by developing a new product, service, or customer experience for the benefit of the partner organization, which also enhances skills in understanding the local context and teamwork in an unfamiliar environment while delivering real value .

This partnership reflects the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development's ongoing commitment to promoting experiential learning, global knowledge exchange, and supporting the capacities of civil society organizations in Egypt. It also builds upon the Foundation's efforts within its NGO capacity-building program in Egypt, which has included key milestones such as the establishment of five specialized training centers for civil society work, the launch of the "First Egyptian Civil Society Forum" held last April under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the training of 2,203 development workers, 62 % of whom are women, thus enhancing their technical skills and increasing their effective participation in community development efforts.

In this context, Professor Laila Hosny, Executive Director of the Sawiris Foundation, stated : " We are delighted to collaborate with Harvard Business School through the 'FIELD Global Capstone' program, as it provides a genuine space for knowledge exchange and shared learning between students and institutions working on the ground. For us, the importance of this experience is not limited to the academic aspect alone, but extends to opening a broader dialogue about local development challenges and how to address them through practical and applicable solutions . This collaboration stems from the Sawiris Foundation's belief in the importance of investing in human capital and supporting the capabilities of civil society organizations, as they are fundamental pillars for achieving sustainable development and maximizing developmental impact ."

Harvard Business School emphasized that this important educational experience would not have been possible without the partners from the participating institutions .

Professor Joe Fuller, Head of the FIELD Global Capstone program, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Sawiris Foundation and all the partners who contribute to the success of this program for our students. The students benefit greatly from this experience, and we hope that it will also benefit the partner institutions.”

This strategic investment in Egyptian human and institutional capital reflects the Foundation’s belief that empowering individuals and strengthening civil society organizations are essential for achieving sustainable and effective change. Building on a legacy spanning more than 25 years, the Sawiris Foundation remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote resilience, inclusivity, and long-term social impact across Egyptian communities.
