Dubai, The Dubai Sports Council announced the launch of the “Club Accelerators Program”, which is one of the key initiatives within the Clubs pillar of the “Dubai Sports Strategy 2033”, and aims to develop the system of government and private clubs in the Emirate of Dubai, support the institutional and professional transformation process, enhance their ability to compete and attract investments, in addition to increasing the contribution of the sports sector to the gross domestic product and developing national talents, in line with Dubai’s position as a leading center in the sports industry internationally.
This came during a press conference organized by the Dubai Sports Council at the Emirates Towers, during which His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, spoke, in the presence of a number of sports stars, sports leaders, heads of football companies, chairmen of boards of directors and executive directors of Dubai clubs, including Major General Talal Shanqiti, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shabab Al-Ahli Football Company, Mohammed Ali bin Khalifa Al-Badwawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hatta Club, Abdullah Yousef, Vice Chairman of Al-Nasr Football Company, and Ibrahim Al-Haddad, member of the Board of Directors of Al-Wasl Sports Club.
During the conference, cooperation agreements were signed between the Dubai Sports Council and the four Dubai government clubs: Al Wasl, Al Nasr, Shabab Al Ahli and Hatta, and with the private clubs: Dubai City, Dubai United, Golf Unified, Fursan Hispania, Royal, Modern Sport, Al Ittifaq, Fort Virtus, Precision and Legentos.
A new beginning for excellence and institutional sustainability
In his address, His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul emphasized that achieving the desired development in the sports sector necessitates close and complete cooperation between the Dubai Sports Council and all relevant stakeholders to achieve sustainable development. He explained that the program's core objective is to elevate the level of technical and administrative performance, optimize resource utilization, and strengthen community ties to attract and nurture national talent.
Belhoul stressed the council’s keenness to play its strategic role in developing the work system, through updating supporting legislation and regulations, and improving the quality of sports facilities, in order to enhance the contribution of sports to the gross domestic product.
His Excellency also praised the qualitative leaps achieved by the sports system in Dubai recently, citing the remarkable successes of private clubs, including the Dubai Basketball Club, in the areas of marketing, communication, attracting different segments of society and raising the level of competitiveness.
His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul explained that the completion of this program was the result of months of joint work and coordination between the Dubai Sports Council and governmental and private clubs to research and design the program's themes and all its aspects.
His Excellency concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the coming period will witness greater interaction among all concerned parties, expecting positive results at all levels, so that this initiative will mark the beginning of a new phase of successes and administrative and sporting development, in line with Dubai’s global standing.
Performance indicators
During the press conference, details of the Club Accelerators Program were announced, which in its first phase includes government clubs competing in the UAE Professional League, namely Al Nasr, Al Wasl, Shabab Al Ahli and Hatta clubs.
The program provides support to government-owned clubs to achieve performance indicators covering key areas and various aspects of club operations. Additional support will be allocated to clubs that meet all program criteria. These indicators are distributed across five main areas, including: developing football by enhancing player development pathways and academy structures, and developing other sports to improve program quality and performance.
The pillars also include administrative and commercial affairs to grow revenue through ticket sales and sponsorships, community engagement to build a fan base and active local interaction, and governance to ensure efficient corporate management, compliance with regulations, and the establishment of strong leadership structures and precise financial controls.
Supporting and developing private clubs
The Club Accelerators program also includes support for private clubs participating in UAE football competitions (Pro League, First Division, and Second Division). The program provides these clubs with access to technical and operational action plans to improve their performance at all levels.
This mechanism offers high flexibility to private clubs to identify and address the gaps and challenges they face, instead of applying a unified framework for performance indicators, thus contributing to enhancing their competitiveness and sustainability.
