Zawya - Press Releases: Recycling Group and Horse Arena sign MoU to develop a specialized waste management framework

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Tadweer Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al Khail Arena to develop a specialized and integrated framework for managing waste from equestrian and leisure facilities, expanding the circular economy agenda to various sectors in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Under this partnership, a comprehensive assessment of the types of waste generated by Al Khail Arena facilities will be conducted, and dedicated pathways will be developed for its responsible handling, treatment, and resource recovery.

Equestrian and recreational facilities generate a diverse mix of waste of a unique nature. This includes significant quantities of organic and agricultural waste from daily operations, as well as operational management waste, and waste from events and horse races. Each of these categories requires dedicated collection, treatment, and recovery pathways tailored to its specific characteristics, which traditional waste management frameworks often fail to address.

On this occasion, Etienne Petit, CEO of Tadweer Group, said: “Our partnership with Al Khail Arena, one of the leading sports and leisure facilities in the emirate, reflects Tadweer Group’s commitment to its dedicated efforts to integrate all sectors into the circular economy system in Abu Dhabi. Together, we will work on an assessment of the daily operational processes of the arena’s facilities and design a resource recovery framework that supports the emirate’s target of diverting 80% of waste away from landfills by 2031. Through this, we look forward to establishing clear standards for how specialized facilities can be integrated into Abu Dhabi’s circular economy system, thus enhancing the system’s objectives.”

For his part, His Excellency Ali Al Shaiba, Director General of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and Abu Dhabi Racecourse, and CEO of the Horse Arena, said: “Our partnership with Tadweer Group contributes to consolidating waste management practices and enhancing resource efficiency as an essential part of our work at the Horse Arena. Together, we are working to develop organized and scalable solutions that support our vision for the responsible use of resources, confirming that sustainability is a key focus in the way we operate.”

This memorandum represents a promising model for collaboration between institutions across different sectors, working together to explore opportunities that enhance operational and environmental value. It achieves this by integrating diverse expertise and specialized capabilities in the waste management and sports and entertainment sectors, supporting Abu Dhabi's sustainability and circular economy agenda priorities. Furthermore, it reflects a practical and exemplary approach to implementing circular economy principles within various institutional environments and economic activities, by integrating responsible waste management practices and resource recovery into daily operations.
