Zawya - Press Releases: BIBF explores future skills gaps in the insurance sector with the participation of more than 70 specialists
Manama – The Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) organized its annual Insurance Roundtable at its headquarters in Bahrain Bay, with the participation of more than 70 representatives of the insurance sector, specialists and those concerned with the development of the sector .
The event was organized as part of the Institute’s efforts to support the development of human capital in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and to enhance the readiness of national talents to keep pace with the rapid changes in the insurance sector, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, risk management, sustainability, and leadership .
The event opened with a welcoming address by Professor Manal Mashkour, Head of the Insurance Studies Center at BIBF , who emphasized the importance of fostering direct dialogue with the sector and listening to market needs, which contributes to designing programs more closely aligned with actual business requirements . She also delivered a presentation titled "The Insurance Skills Gap: From International to Local," in which she reviewed the most prominent future skills required, including artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity risk management, sustainability, analytical thinking, leadership, communication, and adaptability, in addition to technical skills related to insurance, risk management, and organizational governance .
The event included a keynote session entitled “The Untapped Power of Middle Management: Developing Future Insurance Leaders,” presented by Professor Lamia Kuwaiti, in which she addressed the importance of developing middle management in insurance institutions, and moving from relying solely on technical expertise to building leadership capabilities that include people management, communication, decision-making, strategic thinking, and dealing with modern business challenges .
The event included a focus group session and interactive discussion aimed at verifying the results of the skills needs study, identifying current gaps, prioritizing the future workforce, and proposing new areas of development that enhance employee readiness and the competitiveness of insurance institutions .
On this occasion, Professor Manal Mashkour, Head of the Insurance Studies Center at BIBF , stated : “ Developing the insurance sector requires a precise understanding of the skills the market needs in the next stage, especially in light of the rapid digital and regulatory transformations. Through this roundtable, the institute is keen to open a direct dialogue with the sector, with the aim of aligning training programs with the actual needs of institutions, and supporting the preparation of national competencies capable of leading the future of insurance in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
She added that the event's outcomes will contribute to developing the Insurance Studies Center's programs in a way that reflects the sector's priorities and labor market needs, and enhances the alignment of training with local and global changes .
The institute continues to offer and develop specialized programs in the fields of insurance, takaful insurance, risk management, regulation and supervision, and leadership and technical skills, in order to support the development of national competencies and the sustainability of the development of the insurance sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain .
