Zawya - Press Releases: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to inaugurate 8 main 132 kV transmission stations and 2 400 kV stations during 2025
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), said that with the vision and guidance of the wise leadership, DEWA continues to develop a sustainable infrastructure that keeps pace with the requirements of comprehensive development in Dubai and enhances the network’s readiness to accommodate the growing demand for electricity at the highest levels of efficiency and reliability. He noted that, as part of its development plans aimed at enhancing the reliability and sustainability of the electricity transmission network, DEWA inaugurated eight 132 kV main transmission stations and two 400 kV main transmission stations during 2025.
His Excellency Al Tayer added: “The total cost of electricity transmission network projects under construction exceeds AED 8.5 billion, and includes the implementation of 52 132 kV substations and 223 kilometers of 132 kV underground transmission cables, two 400 kV substations, in addition to 130 kilometers of 400 kV overhead transmission lines, which are expected to be completed by 2028. The total number of electricity transmission stations belonging to the Authority reached 394 main transmission stations by the end of last year, including 27 400 kV substations and 367 132 kV substations, with the Authority’s commitment to applying the best international practices in planning and implementing transmission networks.”
For his part, Engineer Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), explained that electricity transmission projects during 2025 included the extension of 250 kilometers of underground cables and overhead transmission lines, at a total cost exceeding AED 1.35 billion, in the areas of Warsan-4, Al Yalayis-5, Hatta, Saih Shuaib-3, Al Habia-5, and Jebel Ali 1. DEWA also commenced the implementation of five projects to construct 132 kV main transmission substations to supply new residential areas for citizens, such as Latifa City, Al Awir 1, Al Khawaneej 2, and others, at a total cost of approximately AED 560 million.
