Zawya - Press Releases: Wego collaborates with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to develop the digital experience for Umrah

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia   Wego, the leading travel app and largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa ( MENA ) region, has announced a strategic partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to launch an integrated digital platform aimed at simplifying the Umrah experience for pilgrims from around the world.

This partnership is part of the Kingdom's efforts to provide a smoother, digitally-driven Umrah experience. By integrating Wego's advanced technologies and regional reach with the Kingdom's network of accredited Umrah service providers, the platform offers a seamless and user-friendly booking experience for pilgrims.

Wego also continues to develop digital solutions that contribute to facilitating the Umrah journey, as it is one of the first platforms that enabled the issuance of the Umrah visa electronically, in a step that reflects its commitment to simplifying the pilgrim’s experience.

Through a unified and user-friendly booking process, travelers can access flight bookings, approved hotels, and licensed ground transportation services, as well as issue e-visas, enhancing transparency and efficiency at various stages of the journey.

Complete Umrah trip

The platform was developed to provide a smoother and more organized Umrah experience, facilitating access to various services within a unified pathway. Wego will leverage its expertise in travel search, payments, and digital distribution to manage marketing, sales, and customer transactions, while licensed and accredited Umrah service providers will focus on delivering high-quality on-the-ground services.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah plays a regulatory and supervisory role in the Umrah system, by ensuring compliance with standards, maintaining the quality of services and providing a consistent experience for pilgrims, while licensed operators carry out the services and manage the operational processes.

This model contributes to raising operational efficiency and enhancing consistency and accountability in the pilgrim experience, while ensuring that all transactions are carried out in Saudi Riyals at the time of booking, which supports transparency and reduces any unexpected costs during the trip.

Commenting on this partnership, Mamoun Humaidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego, said: “Through our collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, we are working to provide a smoother and clearer Umrah experience supported by the necessary technologies. By integrating flight bookings, e-visa issuance, documented accommodation, and licensed on-the-ground services within a unified platform, we are contributing to improving the pilgrim experience, while at the same time contributing to opening up new growth opportunities for Umrah service providers in the Kingdom.”

Options to suit the needs of pilgrims

The platform offers three service packages that allow pilgrims to choose the experience that best suits their needs:

Basic Package: Includes airport pickup and field support
Standard Package: Includes transportation services between major cities such as Mecca and Medina
Premium Package: Includes private transportation, selected visitor experiences, and 24/7 support

These packages have been designed according to Wego's quality standards, ensuring reliable and convenient options at various stages of the journey.

Enhancing transparency and protecting travelers

The platform relies on clear consumer protection policies, including flexibility in modifying bookings and the possibility of refunds according to specific conditions, which enhances the confidence of pilgrims and provides them with a more comfortable experience.

The platform also provides multilingual support and dedicated customer service channels, making it easier for pilgrims from different markets to access it, and highlighting Wego's commitment to providing a comprehensive and integrated user experience.

Supporting the growth of the Umrah system

As part of this initiative, Wego invites qualified Umrah service providers to join the platform, contributing to building a more competitive and scalable digital marketplace and supporting the growth of the Umrah sector in the Kingdom.

The platform www.wego.com/umrah is scheduled to launch in June 2026, coinciding with the start of the Umrah season, enabling pilgrims to plan and book their trips more easily and with a higher level of confidence.
