July 16 (Reuters) - The Standard & Poor's 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes opened lower on Thursday as shares of chipmakers fell again, while investors assessed the latest economic data for signs of economic strength.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 266.2 points, or 0.51 percent, to 52,924.86 points.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index opened down 13.6 points, or 0.18 percent, to 7558.8 points.
The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 113.8 points, or 0.43 percent, to 26,155.405 points.
