May 12 (Reuters) - The Standard & Poor's 500 and Nasdaq indexes fell at the open on Tuesday as investors assessed a higher-than-expected inflation report and hopes faded for a quick resolution to the Middle East conflict.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 35.2 points, or 0.07 percent, to 49,739.62. The S&P 500 opened down 22.2 points, or 0.30 percent, at 7,390.63. The Nasdaq Composite fell 187.1 points, or 0.71 percent, to 26,087.009.
