June 17 (Reuters Sports Service) - Shabab Al Ahli, a club competing in the UAE Pro League, announced on Wednesday that it has signed Brazilian coach Andre Jardine to lead the team next season.
"Welcome Andre to the Knights' Castle," the club said in a statement on the X platform without disclosing further details.
Jardine, 46, will succeed Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, who spent two seasons with the club, during which the team's fortunes varied greatly, between winning four titles in the first season and coming away empty-handed in the second.
Sousa (55 years old) won the league, the UAE President’s Cup, the Super Cup and the Challenge Shield in the UAE/Qatar Super Cup before stepping away from the podiums the following season.
Jardine has worked with several teams in Brazil and Mexico and coached Brazil’s under-20 team in 2019, then became the coach of the under-23 team, leading Brazil to a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
