BEIJING, July 14 (Reuters) - China's smartphone shipments fell 4.3 percent to 66 million units in the second quarter compared with a year earlier, as several manufacturers raised prices due to higher costs for memory chips and components, research firm IDC said on Tuesday.
This decline continues for the fifth consecutive quarter, and shipments for the first half of the year also fell by 4.2 percent compared to last year.
Huawei Technologies and Apple were the only two companies to record growth during this quarter, with their shipments rising by 19.4 percent and 24.4 percent respectively.
Huawei ranked first with a market share of 22.6 percent, while Apple came in second with a share of 18.1 percent.
Shipments from Xiaomi, which ranked fifth, fell by 21.7 percent in the second quarter, Oppo's shipments declined by 9.7 percent, and Vivo's shipments dropped by 11.4 percent.
Most Android device manufacturers have raised their prices or reduced production of budget models due to the rising costs of memory chips and other components, causing consumers to refrain from buying newer models.
