Farnborough, England, July 20 (Reuters) - Riyadh Airlines ordered 34 wide-body aircraft from Boeing and Airbus on Monday as it accelerates plans to reach more than 100 destinations by 2030.

The company said it will exercise options to purchase 28 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft from an order dating back to 2023 and will convert 20 of those options to the larger 787-10 model.

Riyadh Airlines has confirmed the purchase of six Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reinforcing its existing purchase rights and raising its total confirmed orders for this model to 31 aircraft.

The aircraft orders, the first to be announced at this year's Farnborough Airshow, come at a time when Riyadh Airlines is ramping up its operations after launching several new routes since June, in an effort to establish Riyadh as a major competitive hub in the Middle East.

The company has already received six 787-9 aircraft which currently serve six cities.

Riyadh Airlines, backed by the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, is a key element in Saudi Arabia’s strategy to diversify its economy away from heavy reliance on oil, and to boost tourism and air connectivity within the framework of Vision 2030.

The company announced that it aims to connect the Saudi capital to more than 100 destinations around the world by the end of the decade.
