- U.S. chipmaker Nvidia and South Korea's SK are expected to announce a cooperation plan on Monday, as the U.S. chipmaker's chief said the current shortage of memory chips could last "for a few years."

A spokesman for SK Hynix said that group chairman Chi Tae-won and Nvidia CEO Jensen Hwang intend to brief the media on the details of the plan on Monday morning, thus confirming a report published by the private Korean news agency Newsys.

Hwang indicated that Nvidia may announce joint steps with SK as early as Monday.

He told reporters, "We work across many sectors, from AI supercomputing to new processors, computers and robotics, so we are here to plan and we may have an announcement tomorrow," without providing further details.

He stressed that he does not foresee an end in the near future to the shortage of memory chips.

He said, "The entire supply chain in the sector... is suffering from shortages because demand is so high. This is expected to continue for several years."
