BEIJING, June 11 (Reuters) - China's National Energy Administration said in a statement on Thursday that its vice chairman met with an executive from Saudi Aramco in Beijing on Tuesday.
The statement said that Song Hong-kun, deputy director of the National Energy Administration, and Mohammed Al-Qahtani, president of Aramco’s refining, chemicals and marketing sector, exchanged views on global energy security and bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
Song expressed his hope that Chinese and Saudi companies would strengthen communication, deepen cooperation, and deal wisely with risks.
The meeting came at a time when the US-Israeli war on Iran, which began in late February, has disrupted global oil and gas supplies, as the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping lane, has remained virtually closed.
Saudi Arabia is one of the largest oil suppliers to China, although Beijing, the world's largest oil importer, maintains a diversified supply of its imports.
