June 14 (Reuters) - Iraq has asked Turkey to extend the current agreement on the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline for at least a year to allow more time to negotiate a new agreement, said Ali Nizar, director of the state oil marketing company SOMO.
He added in statements published on the company's official website that Iraq has exported 12 million barrels of crude oil from its southern ports since the beginning of June.
Nizar stated that the Iraqi government had submitted a request to Ankara for more time to conduct talks on an alternative agreement covering the main export route.
The agreement governing crude oil exports via the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline between Turkey and Iraq is set to expire on July 27. Baghdad and Ankara are still discussing a draft of a new agreement.
